American Gold Eagle

American Gold Eagle

One of the world's most popular gold bullion coins, and by far the mostly actively traded gold commodity item at Tangible Investments, LLC and gocoins.com. The American Gold Eagle debuted in 1986 and yearly production continues to this day. The obverse design is based upon Augustus Saint-Gaudens' timeless creation; the $20 gold piece of 1907-1933. The reverse--featuring a family of bald ealges--was designed by Miley Busiek.

The U.S. Mint produces the following denominations each year: $50 (one ounce of pure gold), $25 (half ounce), $10 (quarter ounce) and $5 (tenth ounce).

Each coin is composed of 91.67% gold, 3% silver, and 5.33% copper for the sake of durability. The total weight of each one ounce coin is 33.931 grams, or 1.09 troy ounces. The net amount of PURE gold is exactly one troy ounce per coin.
