Los Angeles CA, Apr 8 (Tangible Investments) - by James O’Dell - The Gold price jumped back above the psychological $1,300 an ounce level in overnight trade after easing $6.09 or 0.47 percent to close at $1,296.55 an ounce on Monday when the Dow plunged triple digits as equities weakened and tensions boiled over in Ukraine. Silver breached the $20.00 an ounce level in overnight trade after gaining $0.04 or 0.20 percent to close at $19.85 an ounce on Monday.
 
China's markets reopened on Tuesday after being closed on Monday to celebrate the final day of the Qingming Festival and the falling discount rates suggest that demand has increased with their return.
 
Meanwhile, the Ukraine crisis flared up again after pro-Russian protesters seized government buildings in Luhansk and Donetsk and demanded a referendum to join Russia, much like the protests that preceded the annexation of Crimea. Russia continues to deny Ukrainian charges that it is involved in the uprising but gave a stern warning to Kiev, on Monday, to refrain from any use of force against its Russian-speaking citizens.
 
Kiev says the seizure of government buildings in eastern Ukraine on Sunday night is just a replay of events that led up to the invasion of Crimea last month. "An anti-Ukrainian plan is being put into operation ... under which foreign troops will cross the border and seize the territory of the country," said Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk in remarks to his cabinet. "We will not allow this."
 
The White House says it believes pro-Russian demonstrators in the region are being paid and warned Russia's President Putin not to move either "overtly or covertly," into eastern Ukraine. Secretary of State John Kerry "called on Russia to publicly disavow the activities of separatists, saboteurs and provocateurs" that are fueling the protests in Ukraine.
