US Warns Russia On Invading Ukraine As Tensions Rise

Los Angeles CA, Feb 27 (Tangible Investments) - by James O’Dell - Gold and silver prices dipped on Wednesday as gold eased $6.89 or 0.52 percent to close at $1,329.11 an ounce, while the yellow metal remains on pace for a second straight monthly gain amid rising geopolitical tensions after Russia decided to stage a military readiness exercise with 150k troops during the ongoing crisis in neighboring Ukraine. The price of Silver slid $0.59 or 2.71 percent to close at $21.19 an ounce.
In an apparent warning to Ukraine, Russia's President Putin ordered military units in western Russia to be put on combat alert on Wednesday. There are now ninety fighter jets patrolling the Ukraine border, according to Russian news agencies. The Russian military also announced that it will tighten security at the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, located on the Crimean peninsula in southeastern Ukraine.
Acting Ukraine president, Oleksandr Turchynov, who stepped in after Ukrainian President Yanukovych went into hiding, warned that any move by Russian troops off of their base in Crimea "will be considered a military aggression." Russia's military readiness maneuvers elicited a prompt rebuke from U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who warned that any military intervention by Russia would be a "grave mistake."
Meanwhile, a large heavily armed force, seized control of the Ukrainian Parliament building in the Russian-speaking Crimea region in the early morning on Thursday before raising the Russian flag. One account of the incident by a man named Maxim, a pro-Russian activist who would not give his last name, went as follows: "At 5 o'clock unknown men turned up and went to the building. They got into the courtyard and put everyone on the ground.
"They were asking who we were. When we said we stand for the Russian language and Russia, they said: `Don't be afraid. We're with you.' Then they began to storm the building bringing down the doors," said the witness.
