TANGIBLE INVESTMENTS - Los Angeles - by James O'Dell - Gold hit its highest in four months on Tuesday and is currently trading at $1,342.34 an ounce, while silver has climbed to $21.96 an ounce, after the Conference Board, an industry group, reported earlier today that U.S. consumer confidence dropped to 78.1 this month, down from 79.4 in January, and well below the 80.0 economists were expecting. "The reading below 80 is seen as quite negative for the economic outlook and that seems to be proving sufficient to get above the rather sticky resistance level of $1,337," said Mitsubishi's Jonathan Butler.
 
‘‘Consumers believe the economy has improved, but they do not foresee it gaining considerable momentum in the months ahead,’’ said the Conference Board's Lynn Franco. Consumer sentiment is closely watched due to its impact on consumer spending, which represents 70 percent of the economy.
Meanwhile, there was bad news for Bitcoin investors today when the Bitcoin trading website named "Mt.Gox" was taken offline late Monday. The CEO of Mt.Gox, Mark Karpeles, resigned from the Bitcoin Foundation's board of directors on Sunday.  Mt. Gox was at one time the largest trading platform for Bitcoins in the world, and the site acted as an exchange.
 
Today, at the site, all that is left is this message: “In light of recent news reports and the potential repercussions on MtGox's operations and the market, a decision was taken to close all transactions for the time being in order to protect the site and our users. We will be closely monitoring the situation and will react accordingly.”
